The Tolleson Police Department is a month into their body camera program and the results have been positive
The officers are still getting used to the Axon body cameras, which are becoming more common across the Valley.
The devices are not part of the company’s recent program to give away free cameras because Tolleson’s were approved in January.
Cmdr. Rudy Mendoza says the force has been happy with the program.
“Whether you’re a five man department or 500 man department, I think the public wants some accountability. And so do we," Mendoza said. "And I think all around law enforcement across the nation is moving to this trend. So it wasn’t a hard sell.”
Tolleson’s force owns 30 body cameras, which, together with the data storage, cost the city about $39,000.
