The City of Phoenix announced its expanding its bike share program. The city council approved the expansion early last week.
The plan is to add 200 bicycles, 20 stations and 10 kiosks to the existing system.
Monica Hernandez is with the City of Phoenix. She said most of the existing bike stations are located near bus stops and light rail. This install will be a little different.
"What we’ll be doing, we’ll be reaching into neighborhoods," Hernandez said. "What we’re attempting here to do is connect the system. Make it more convenient. Create shorter walking distances between stations."
The stations will be mostly located south of Camelback Road in the Central and south Phoenix-areas.
In 2016, more than 47,000 trips were taken by more than 9,000 riders.
