Why Is Political Win Or Loss More Important Than Vote's Impact?

Politics has always been about winning. Sure, people run for office with the goal of changing their communities or getting things done, which can mean so many things.

But many of those candidates are convinced that they can only make a big impact by being victorious.

And that, according to some new research, is extending even more dramatically to their supporters.

So why is a win or loss for a party or ideology considered more important than the impact of a vote or policy on the nation as a whole?

To learn more, we spoke with Lilliana Mason. She is an assistant professor at the University of Maryland, and she studies partisanship.
