The Arizona Legislature will soon be facing another education lawsuit over what plaintiffs are calling inadequate funding for buildings and maintenance.
It’s based on claims that the Legislature is effectively ignoring a 1994 ruling from the Arizona Supreme Court which said it’s illegal to have local taxpayers be solely responsible for school construction.
The lawsuit is being filed Monday and comes nearly a year after the state settled another education funding lawsuit with the passage of Proposition 123.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been modified to clarify the type of taxpayer responsible for school construction.
