U.S. Short On Judges Who Can Handle Immigration-Related Cases

The Trump administration has moved to change United States immigration policy, whether it’s on sanctuary cities and interior enforcement or strengthening enforcement at the nation’s border with Mexico.

But the nation is already dramatically short on judges who can handle immigration-related cases. Tightening up on some violations could make that shortfall feel insurmountable.

Bill Hing is the director of the Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic at the University of San Francisco.
