Over the weekend, President Trump celebrated his 100th day in office.
During his campaign and continuing into his presidency, Trump promised dramatic policy changes and emphasized addressing conflicts with Mexico and “radical Islamic terrorists.”
But the latest National Security concerns in Washington are actually coming from North Korea.
Just days before his official 100th day, the president told Reuters we could end up having “a major, major conflict” with North Korea. Now, it seems like, almost overnight, we could be headed into war with North Korea.
When NPR’s Steve Inskeep talked to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson Friday morning about his goal in working with North Korea, Tillerson said the past strategy for working with North Korea has been finding temporary solutions.
But he said that’s not the plan anymore. There’s no room for what he called “strategic patience.”
"... North Korea has to decide they're ready to talk to us about the right agenda — and the right agenda is not simply stopping where they are for a few more months or a few more years and then resuming things. That's been the agenda for the last 20 years," he said.
