FBI Director Comey Testifies FBI And Congress Not Doing Enough To Protect Themselves From Outside Threats

FBI Director James Comey testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on his agency’s operations Wednesday morning.

He faced multiple questions regarding Russia’s hacking and interference with the 2016 election tied to President Donald Trump’s campaign.

During his questioning, Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake asked Director Comey if the FBI or Congress is doing enough to protect themselves from outside threats.

“I don’t mean for this to be a wise-guy answer: but surely not. Again, it’s not just about the perimeter that we build, it’s about the security culture inside our organizations,” Comey said. “And look, I’m part of the FBI and I still don’t think that ours is good enough. I’m sure our congress’ is not good enough.”

Comey said the FBI has put a lot of time and effort into protecting their system. But he said even with the greatest firewalls, the weakest link is the negligent people.
