Earlier this spring, a pile of boxes was found in a Valley warehouse, and the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office discovered approximately 100,000 state-issued voter registration forms in those boxes.
They’d been around for at least 10 years, and the information they contained wouldn’t be found in the voter database.
The issue revolves around Proposition 200, approved by Arizona voters in 2004, and requires proof of citizenship to vote.
County Recorder Adrian Fontes, who took office in January, is concerned that what is in the aforementioned boxes may provide evidence that thousands of citizens were denied the opportunity to cast ballots.
Rebekah Sanders, who covers Maricopa County government for The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com, reported on the story and is with me.
