A longtime Valley civic leader known for his work with community organizations has passed away.
Pete Garcia was the CEO of Chicanos Por La Causa for 25 years. Garcia is credited with developing many of the organization’s programs that now serve nearly 200,000 people in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.
The Arizona Republic reports that Garcia passed away Wednesday night from health complications.
Earlier in his career Garcia also worked for Valle del Sol. He retired from CPLC in 2008 and started the Victoria Foundation, which provides small grants for education programs, affordable housing and other community programs.
Garcia was 71. He is survived by his wife and three children.
