A GoFundMe account is now open to raise the remaining funds for a January 8th Memorial in Tucson. The goal is to reach $1.5 million.
The campaign will help commemorate the 2011 shootings that killed six people and injured 13 others, including Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
Crystal Kasnoff is the executive director of the January 8th Memorial Foundation in Tucson. She says visitors will have a lot to see when the project is complete.
“The walls themselves are a series of symbols. We have rows for the victims of the January 8th tragedy, the survivors, the first responders and then in addition, we have history of Arizona and aspirations for the future," she said.
Kasnoff says any donation helps and she hopes the campaign will reach a nationwide audience. She added that an anonymous donor has promised to match the first $10,000 raised. Kasnoff says they hope to have enough money by the end of the year.
