McCain Disturbed By Trump Sharing Classified Information With Russians

U.S. Sen. John McCain says he is deeply disturbed by reports that President Trump revealed highly classified information to senior Russian officials during an Oval Office meeting last week.

In statement released this morning, McCain, who serves as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, called reports that information was provided by a U.S. ally and shared without knowledge a ”troubling signal to America’s allies and partners around the world” and could impair their willingness to share intelligence in the future.

Regrettably, he added, time spent sharing sensitive information was not spent focusing on what McCain referred to as “Russia’s aggressive behavior.”

During a briefing today, Trump’s National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster repeatedly called the president’s revelations “wholly appropriate,” amounting to a routine sharing of information.
