Why Is It So Fun To Write About Sherlock Holmes?

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s consulting detective Sherlock Holmes is, without debate, one of the most popular and revisited characters in the history of Western literature and entertainment.

The Benedict Cumberbatch-starring Sherlock has brought the creation to modern London, while the recent film "Mr. Holmes" put the detective at an advanced age spending much of his time as an apiarist, or beekeeper.

Jeffrey Hatcher wrote the screenplay for "Mr. Holmes" and is also the writer of Arizona Theatre Company’s world premiere production of "Holmes and Watson," currently running at the Herberger Theatre Center in downtown Phoenix.

We talked with Hatcher about the new play and why it’s fun to write about Sherlock Holmes.
