Republicans Agree Not To Appeal Judge's Decision On Arizona Redistricting Map

A group of Republican voters has agreed not to pursue an appeal in an overturned complaint against the commission that drew Arizona’s latest congressional and legislative district maps.

On Wednesday, Attorney Brett Johnson said his clients agreed to drop the appeal after the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission agreed it will not seek repayment for attorney fees.

Back in March, the group lost its complaint claiming the commission illegally made decisions behind closed doors to redraw the legislative and congressional maps in favor of Democratic candidates.

The citizen-created commission began after the 2010 US Census.  In that time, evaluating and redrawing Arizona’s districts, it has battled and won five different lawsuits, including two at the U.S. Supreme Court level.
