Douglas Border Concert Aims To Show A Unified Region

Last year's Concert Without Borders at the Douglas Port of Entry.

The Douglas Port of Entry on the border between Arizona and Mexico is normally full of people, cars and trucks waiting to cross —and border security officers making sure they do it safely.

The border wall there stretches in both directions, more of a metal fence than a wall and a symbol of the mounting division between the two countries.

But Dr. Lori Keyne doesn’t see this as a divided region. Her goal is to show people that it’s a unified one.

Keyne is a music instructor for Cochise College and the executive director of the Bi-national Arts Institute. And this Saturday, she’ll be transforming the Douglas Port of Entry into a cross-border stage for the fourth-annual Concert Without Borders.

The Show’s Lauren Gilger spoke with her as she prepares for the concert in Douglas.
