On his last day to sign bills into law for the session, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey did an about face on collectible coins.
With his signature, he agreed to make U.S. Mint made gold and silver collector coins tax free if sold in Arizona.
Ducey and his predecessor Jan Brewer had rejected similar measures in prior years under the premise it would give coin sellers an unfair tax advantage.
"The impact will be de minimis and the group that it targets is very limitedm," said Spokesman Daniel Scarpinato.
Capital gains made selling other collectibles such as classic cars, gold bouillon and high end art will still be subject to taxation.
Scarpinato could not estimate how the rare coin tax break will impact Arizona's general fund.
