It’s only May, but many are worried about the fate of a popular Phoenix holiday tradition. The top of Camelback Mountain might look less festive in the future.
For years many people saw the Christmas Tree placed atop the mountain as a source of holiday cheer. Others saw it as going against the city’s leave no trace policy.
The Phoenix Sonoran Preserves and Mountain Parks/Preserves Committee unanimously agreed the tradition needs to come to an end despite its popularity.
According to the board, the tree goes against the city’s existing policy barring monuments – like the tree – from being placed on Camelback.
The opinions of the committee will now go to the Parks and Recreation Board for a final decision.
