There were a lot of residents and advocates at the Mesa City Council meeting last night speaking out against this decision to privatize its jail operations.
One advocate who has been voicing her opposition to this is former Coolidge City Council Member Emily Verdugo. She’s now a program coordinator for the American Friends Service Committee, and she recently wrote an op-ed saying that Mesa should prioritize its community over these jail costs.
