The Mesa City Council heard legal advice from outside counsel regarding Councilman Ryan Winkle in executive session this morning.

Mesa City Councilman Ryan Winkle was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The council has excused Winkle’s absences from recent meetings after he took a voluntary leave of absence.

This is his second DUI in eight years. In both incidents, Winkle’s blood alcohol level was over 0.20, which is considered a super extreme DUI under Arizona law.

The council is looking into options for disciplinary actions that include removal from office.
