Fully Contained Black Canyon Fire Labeled Suspicious

A junkyard fire that broke out over the weekend in Black Canyon City is now fully contained. But not before it destroyed a half dozen homes and it is now being called suspicious.

Daisy Mountain Fire Battalion Chief Dave Wilson said, the fire that had been put out Saturday night, flared back up again just before midnight, forcing evacuations, consuming vehicles and several buildings.

“We are in a geographical location that does not have fire hydrants, so we had to truck in our own water," Wilson said. "Limited resources, so we actually had to call in a third-alarm assignment from the Phoenix metropolitan area.”

About 200 firefighters from across the Valley and the forest service dealt with a 50 acre fire before fully containing it.

Wilson said, the investigation into the fire has yet to begin.
