SRP Wants Your Opinion About New Power Lines In Chandler

Utility company Salt River Project knows the demand for power in Chandler’s Price Road Corridor is growing.

What it still has to determine is how to meet it.

SRP is considering several routes for new power lines including Ellis Road and Price Road.

‘We haven’t identified a preferred route, but I will tell you that when you’re looking at, you know, what’s logical, Price Road is farther west,” SRP spokesman Scott Harelson said. “It’s farther away. It would have less impact on the residential areas.”

The corridor is home to big employers like Intel, PayPal and Wells Fargo. However, residents have concerns about health or property values.

Placing lines underground is a possibility but an expensive one. Harelson said to install the planned double circuit line it would cost $16 million a mile. SRP would also have to work around additional underground utilities.

“SRP is willing to bury lines, if there is another entity that is willing to pay the differential,” Harelson said and added the company is in conversation with the city.

Residents can give their input at a public open house Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Chandler Resort, 1 N. San Marcos Place.
