Pima County Begins Texting While Driving Ban

Put away your cell phone while driving in Pima County. The new texting while driving law began June 1.

County lawmakers passed the ban last month, making it illegal to text or operate any handheld devices while driving through the southern Arizona county, which includes areas surrounding Tucson.

The City of Tucson enacted its own texting ban two years ago.

Sheriff’s deputies will give drivers warnings through August 1. After that, it’s a civil traffic violation with a $100 fine and a $250 fine, if it involves an accident.
