Legislation Considered To Designate Route 66 As National Historic Trail

Route 66 is an important part of the history of Arizona — and the other states the so-called “Mother Road” swung through beginning in 1926.

As the legendary song goes, driving down Route 66 sent you past Chicago, St. Louis, Oklahoma City — on to Flagstaff and eventually to San Bernardino, California.

There’s legislation being considered in Congress now that, if successful, would designate Route 66 as a National Historic Trail.

We talked about that with Bill Thomas, chairman of the Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership. He lives nearby the route in Atlanta, Illinois.
