The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will soon be switching the electronic health record system it uses.
VA hospitals currently use a system that was originally developed in the 1970s known as Vista.
After acknowledging the need for modernization, VA Secretary David Shulkin announced Monday that the agency would soon be switching to the platform Department of Defense uses.
The move means that all patient data will live in one common system.
Officials hope the switch will make the transition from active duty to veteran status a little more seamless.
