Arizona Sen. John McCain sat on Wednesday’s Senate Intelligence Committee hearing into the Russia probe and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
During the hearing McCain questioned National Intelligence Director Dan Coats.
McCain asked Coats why he was still keeping information about President Donald Trump asking Former FBI Director James Comey to interfere with the Russia probe classified during the public briefing, despite so much information already available in a recent edition of the Washington Post.
“[It] Describes in some detail, not just outline, but times and dates and subjects that are being discussed,” McCain said. “And I’m certainly not blaming you, but it certainly an interesting town in which we exist.”
To which Director Coats responded, “just because it’s published in the Washington Post doesn’t mean it is now unclassified.”
During an earlier part of the hearing, Coats stated he would be willing to provide the committee with more information in a closed session. McCain said he hopes that option will soon become available.
