Imagine going to clean out a loved one’s garage or storage space and learning you have millions of dollars in artwork just sitting there.

For one Sun City family, that’s what happened. According to Josh Levine, CEO of J. Levine Auction and Appraisal, they were originally contacted by the family about a Kobe Bryant signed poster and other sports memorabilia. But their interest grew when they went inside the home.

Levine says that’s when the rest of the stack of art came out, including a rare Jackson Pollock.

Since 2016 Levine has been working to authenticate the painting. And because the Pollock-Krasner Foundation disbanded years ago, they could not definitively prove it was by the reclusive artist. But what they could prove was the collection was originally owned by a woman named Jennifer Gordon-Cosgriff.

And from there they did testing on it to discover the painting was likely done before 1950. Then, more parts of how Jenifer acquired the art came to light.

Now, the Pollock painting is going up for auction and is expected to fetch between $10 million and 15 million. Live bidding for the painting begins next week. A public preview will take place on Monday at the Auction House in Scottsdale.pol
