New Fire Restrictions In Coconino And Kaibab National Forests

Pack your portable gas stove if you plan to camp in the Coconino or Kaibab national forests.

Beginning Thursday, the U.S. Department of Forestry is placing new restrictions on the two regions.

To prevent human-caused wildfires, rangers will prohibit smoking, fires, campfires and charcoal, coal or wood burning stoves, unless they are inside a developed recreation site.

Gas stoves, or any other devices, must be solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels with an on-off switch. And, in those cases, they may be used only in areas cleared of flammable materials within three feet of the gear, including above it.
