FDA Says No To Labels, For Now

Revamped nutrition labels on packaged foods and drinks are being delayed. The decision affecting grocers was pushed back Tuesday.

The Food and Drug Administration is extending the original July 2018 deadline that requires food manufacturers to use a revised Nutrition Facts label on all food and beverages.

The FDA originally issued the regulation in 2016, requiring labels be redesigned to highlight calorie and serving-size information as well as add detail about fat and sugar content.

The FDA now say companies will have additional time to comply, but has not given a specific date.

The Grocery Manufacturers Association and other industry groups have asked for a deadline in 2021.
