Arizona Rep. McSally Says Country Must Come Together After Shooting

Following Wednesday’s shooting at a congressional baseball practice, which left five people injured, including House GOP whip Steve Scalise, Arizona’s congressional delegation is speaking up.

Arizona Congresswoman Martha McSally said what happened Wednesday is a wake-up call for all Americans.

"When you see some of the things going on out it’s like the frog in the water when you’re turning the temperature up one degree at a time and as I said when the man was arrested making threats against me, threats of violence and acts of violence are not so far apart,” McSally said.

McSally said the country must come together.

"I think it’s a wake up call for us again as Americans… all of us… those of us in leadership, those of us in our communities," McSally said. "We can have sincerely held different beliefs, lets have conversations about those."

The shooting took place at a ballpark outside Washington, D.C. where Republican lawmakers and others were gathered for a morning practice.

The attacker has been identified as James T Hodgkinson. He was shot and killed by police officers.
