With summer officially started, mosquitoes are on their way up.
A recently published CDC study found increased reported numbers in the southern U.S. of two mosquito species known to be able to carry the Zika Virus.
Dr. Rebecca Eisen, who helped author the study says increased record-keeping was the reason for the increase.
“It’s quite likely that those mosquitoes were already there, and what we saw was intensified surveillance or intensified efforts to find them in response to the Zika outbreak," Eisen said.
Eisen said staying indoors, wearing long sleeved clothes and using EPA-sanctioned repellent are all good strategies to fend off the bugs.
