People of Arizona are making poor choices behind the wheel. That’s leading to an increased number of fatal accidents on the road.
Nine hundred sixty-two fatal crashes occurred in 2016, according to a recent report released by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
While that number is higher compared to 2015, it’s actually an improvement. When you look at data from 10 years ago, there has been a 26 percent decrease in the number of fatal crashes since 2006.
But among those killed, many deaths could have been prevented. Not using a seat belt, speeding and impairment were among the leading factors in traffic fatalities.
The report says one person was killed about every nine hours.
