The Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS in Phoenix is one of 30 centers nationwide to receive a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The 5-year, $1.7 million grant will be used for HIV prevention and outreach services across the state.
According to the CDC, Latinos are disproportionately affected by HIV, accounting for nearly a quarter of U.S. cases in 2014.
Part of the grant money will be used specifically for HIV prevention in Hispanic males between the ages of 13 and 29.
