Buckeye’s airport coordinator has died in a plane accident.

Officials say a small plane with two people on board took off from Buckeye Airport around 8 a.m. Tuesday, and when it failed to return, the wreckage was found in the Gila Bend Mountains southwest of Buckeye.

Neither on board survived. Buckeye officials say John McMahon, the city airport’s sole employee and coordinator, died Tuesday in an aviation accident.

McMahon had been at the airport since 2013 and earned his private pilot certification while working at the city.

He is survived by his wife and three children.
