Phoenix Offering Up 13 Lots For Sale In Historic Garfield District

The saga of city of Phoenix-owned lots has been making headlines for years now.

Downtown lots, thousands upon thousands of them, have sat empty — making up an estimated 90-square city miles of unused land.

To tackle the issue, the city of Phoenix created a process. First, it was a matter of understanding just how many lots they had and where they were, then they had to unload them. At first they sold 171 lots, with a return of over $17 million in sales revenue. In March, the city listed 500 more lots for sale.

And now, on June 26, the city announced it was offering up 13 lots in the historic Garfield District in downtown Phoenix, this time with a focused Request for Proposals to developers to build single-family homes.

Here to talk about these 13 lots is Dan Klocke, executive director of the Downtown Phoenix Partnership.
