The Fourth of July - a day when we celebrate our country’s independence.
While many of us will celebrate in our backyards or at a campground, Arizona Sen. John McCain will be stepping away from Washington D.C. during the legislative break and traveling to Kabul, Afghanistan.
“When I get a little jaded and a little disappointed around here, going and spending time with the troops that serve in uniform, and in civilian clothes, is one of the most enlightening, and frankly, uplifting experiences that an old man can have,” he said.
McCain, a Navy veteran, said his annual Fourth of July trip has become one of the most important parts of his year.
