Phoenix Police In Search Of Gunman Who Opened Fire On 2 Officers

Phoenix Police continue to look for a gunman who opened fire on two officers in a patrol car early Sunday morning.

The shooting around 4 a.m., shut down Interstate 17 between Camelback and Indian School roads for several hours as investigators scoured the area.

The officers were investigating reports of shots being fired in the neighborhood, when they approached a man walking.

He reportedly put his hands in the air, turned away, then allegedly turned back and fired several shots through the officers’ car windshield, before he escaped.

The officers described the gunman as a 25-year-old Hispanic man, around 6 feet tall, and average weight.

As of Monday morning, crews had not located the suspect in the perimeter set up where he was last seen near I-17 and Hazelwood Street.

Witnesses are asked to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness, if they wish to remain anonymous.
