Arizona Sen. John McCain.

Arizona’s senior senator and the nation’s Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain plans to recommend to President Donald Trump that he station more American troops in Afghanistan.

He announced his assessment as he and a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers wrapped up their visit to the war torn area on Tuesday.

McCain said he wanted a comprehensive strategy to defeat the Taliban’s 16-year grip on the region.

His friend and fellow Sen. Lindsay Graham was part of the delegation and said he will recommend more U.S. and NATO troops to help accomplish the strategy.
