The first half of 2017 generated some big job announcements across the Valley. Commercial real estate firm CBRE tracked 49 companies that publicly announced their hiring plans.
Jessica Glick, senior research analyst, said it added up to 11,440 positions.
“The job announcements are usually when a company decides to locate or expand their existing operations here and those numbers of jobs are typically calculated over a three to five year time period,” she explained.
Intel led the pack with 3,000 more jobs expected at its manufacturing facility in Chandler. Several other large announcements made by financial services and technology companies include customer service jobs at their operations centers.
Glick said Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale were hot spots for large job announcements. “Really the amenities and the closeness to ASU and the talent pool that those communities can draw from is what’s attracting those employers there,” she said.
She also cited the public-private marketing efforts to promote the Valley as a strong place to do business, “I think more companies are just more aware of what Phoenix has to offer.”
