E. Coli Outbreak Grows Near Utah-Arizona Border

An E. coli outbreak on the Utah-Arizona border has now grown to 11 confirmed cases.

Most of those affected are children, including two who died. The outbreak is in the community of Short Creek, which includes Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah, and is home to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The source of the outbreak has not been determined, but the Southwest Utah Public Health Department said that water testing shows no E. coli in the drinking water.

The agency is also working in conjunction with the Mohave County Department of Public Health, as well as state departments in both Arizona and Utah.

Residents in the area are advised not to consume raw milk or any previously purchased ground beef until further notice.

Symptoms of E. coli include stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.
