Two battered I-17 overpasses now have support from reinforced polymer and carbon fiber strips.

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced work on concrete girders at both the 19th Ave. and Jefferson St. overpasses is now complete using what it called, “space age technology."

Oversized trucks had hit both bridges in recent years, placing the 19th Ave. location on a “structurally deficient” list. It’s now been removed from that list with the latest repairs completed.

The work was part of the ongoing repairs and upgrades to I-17.
