You might have heard of the School of Rock, but what about Phoenix’s own School of Hip Hop?
The camp is held every summer at The Nash in downtown Phoenix, and this summer is their second-annual Jazz and Hip Hop Camp.
The goal is to provide a music outlet for kids in south Phoenix and other urban areas where they don’t have the same access to music education or lessons.
And it’s headed up by some of Phoenix’s best musicians, including Camille Sledge, frontwoman for the Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra and heiress of the famous disco group, Sister Sledge.
The Show’s Lauren Gilger recently sat down with Sledge to talk more about the camp, the kids who come and why they try to reach them with hip hop.
The School of Hip Hop Phoenix starts on July 24 at The Nash in downtown Phoenix. You can still sign up to join.
