Clothing and underwear brand, Fruit of the Loom, says it wants its products to be environmentally friendly. To do it, the company is getting help from a university think tank.
A project called The Sustainability Consortium has aspirations to transform the consumer goods industry. Formed in 2009, it’s run by Arizona State University and the University of Arkansas.
Tony Pelaski, Fruit of the Loom’s chief operating officer, says global organizations have an obligation to sustainability practices and that the effort supports the environment, but also serves customers.
By joining the Consortium, Fruit of the Loom will have access to member partners that include other retailers and manufacturers, but also governmental agencies and academics. Fruit of the Loom employs nearly 30,000 people in 26 countries.
