Phoenix Meeting To Discuss Proposed Bike Lanes On 15th Ave.

The city of Phoenix wants to create bike lanes on a stretch of 15th Avenue. The transportation department will host a public meeting to talk about the plan.

The idea is to add lanes between Van Buren Street and Interstate 17 on 15th Avenue. Monica Hernandez is with the city’s transportation department.

"By adding bike lanes on that particular stretch, we would connect to existing bike lanes that are currently in place north of Van Buren. We would be able to create a buffer in the middle of the roadway and certain portions along that stretch," Hernandez said.

The proposed bike lanes were identified as part of the City’s Bicycle Master Plan. Hernandez says the city also wants to add bike lanes to several other roads, including Van Buren, Third and Fifth avenues, Oak Street, Missouri Avenue to name a few. The meeting will be held July 27.
