The First Family Of Springfield Celebrates 30 Years On TV

Wanna feel old? It’s been 30 years since we were first introduced to The Simpsons of Springfield, somewhere. And while Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie have evolved somewhat from their earliest days, they don’t seem to have aged a bit.

"The Simpsons" is among the longest-running TV shows of all time, and its influence has been felt beyond the world of entertainment — in fact, the show’s made it all the way to academia.

Matt Henry teaches English at Richland College in Dallas and is the author of the book "The Simpsons: Satire and American Culture." I spoke with him recently, and asked him about the show’s place in American culture.
