Arizona State University has earned six new awards from the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Awards, totaling $4.3 million, and now ranks first among the recipients in its category.
This year’s awards, which come with grants totaling $20.5 million overall for 28 projects, supports the development of new commercial photovoltaics technologies, the process of converting light into electricity. ASU engineers beat other leading solar research centers including the University of Central Florida and Colorado State, each with two awards.
ASU’s Quantum Energy and Sustainable Technologies is the largest university solar research facility in the United States. Its stated goal is to double the amount of national electricity demand provided by solar.
