The Navajo Nation is considering buying Colorado ranchland that contains two mountains the tribe believes to be sacred.
The price for one of Colorado’s largest ranches is $23 million. Navajo President Russell Begaye said purchasing the property would make the tribe whole.
This follows a lost legal battle between the tribe and a Flagstaff ski resort over making snow out of reclaimed waste water on another sacred mountain in 2008.
The 26 square mile Colorado property is home to 200 head of cattle and 300 head of bison that the tribe could use to expand its beef business.
