Could Medical Marijuana Offer Promise To Treat Opioid Addiction?

The state health department reports there were more than 850 possible opioid overdoses between mid-June and mid-July, with 10 percent of them fatal.

The state, and the country as a whole, are trying to deal with the opioid epidemic, and there seems to be a growing consensus that there’s not a one-size-fits all approach to treating those who are addicted.

Earlier this year, a new treatment center in Scottsdale got its certification from the state. Blue Door Therapeutics focuses specifically on opioid addiction. With me to talk about it are the clinic’s CEO, Gina Berman, and its medical director, Ravi Chandiramani. Both are co-founders of the clinic.

For more on where the research is on that topic, I’m joined by Yasmin Hurd. She’s a neuroscientist and director for the Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai Behavioral Health System in New York City.
