A German company called Bake in Space has spent the last year tackling the rather complex problem of how to bake and eat bread in space.
Eating bread in space has been pretty much banned in space because it creates too many crumbs. And where do crumbs go when you’re eating in space? That’s right — everywhere, and there’s no controlling them.
So, I spoke with Sebastian Marcu more about this. He’s the CEO and founder of Bake in Space, and he told me about not only the problem they’re trying to solve here, but the implications of being able to bake bread in space for the “newspace” startup scene and space tourism.
To understand the possibilities there, and the challenges of eating in space, I turned to Scott Parazynski. He’s a former astronaut and now the CEO of a tech company called Fluidity Technologies. He spent some time here at ASU as well, and he’s the author of an upcoming book about life in space called "The Sky Below."
