Senator John McCain is returning to Arizona from Washington to undergo further cancer treatment for a brain tumor. The 80-year-old will begin targeted radiation and chemotherapy on Monday.
McCain’s office said he will maintain a work schedule during his treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix and that McCain plans on returning to Washington after the Senate’s August recess. This announcement came hours after the Arizona Republican cast his crucial vote, effectively derailing the GOP-backed repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, known as a glioblastoma, earlier this month. It was discovered after he had a blot clot removed above his left eye.
