Officials in Buckeye are gearing up to open a new elementary school in the district. More than 600 students are expected to attend Marionneaux Elementary this year.
Nick Forgette will be the school’s principal. He said the new facility will help take some of the pressure off of the neighboring elementary schools.
"The need for the school itself is just due to Buckeye’s growth. Our school district is growing and one of our sister campuses, Jasinski Elementary, the area around that is growing more importantly," Forgette said.
School officials held a dedication ceremony at the campus in southern Buckeye late last week. The first day of school is Wednesday.
