State Route 366 in southeastern Arizona is closed indefinitely in the aftermath of the Frye Fire.
The fire left the area around the highway and Mount Graham susceptible to flash flooding, and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) crews are working to make the area safe again.
ADOT spokesman Mark Hermann said this is the best move for the area as of now.
“We just really wanna make sure that both the people who like to have recreation in that area and our crews are safe while we’re doing this, and the best way to do that given the limited space and the threat of flash flooding is to close this road,” said Hermann.
Hermann said the road will likely remained closed for the remainder of monsoon season but that there is a possibility it could open earlier.
